Bleached Brows No Bleach

Hello readers!!

If you're anything like me, you love a good bleached brow. There's just something about it that, when it's done well, looks so chic. I bleached my brows back in 2022, but hated how quickly they grew back, and sometimes I didn't want to look bald! So, I've been on the hunt for a brow gel that gives that chic look without the permanence.

However, I came across a perfect solution today! The Pat McGrath Labs Invisibrow Gel. It goes on super easy, and the pigment is insane!! I naturally have pretty dark brows, so I was suprised that this actually worked for me! I chose the shade "Bleached Blonde", but the product also comes in 5 more colors, including "Amber Honey", "Pale Pink", and even a stark "White"!

And the best part is that it stayed on for hours, without a setting spray or powder. Below, I've included some pics; the first picture was taken about an hour after my application, around 3 p.m. The second picture was taken at 8:30 p.m., and it barely budged. I will say, I did have to clean up the gel around my brows; however, it was super easy to do with just a Q-tip and some micellar water! Loveee. It retails for $24, which is honestly less than what I thought it would be. LOL.

Moral of the story: if you're looking for a temporary bleach brow, Pat McGrath Labs is the way to go!!

Rush 50 Something Tour

Hello readers!

I wanted to upload today, but I wasn't sure what to write about, so I figured I'd talk about an event from June: my dad and I went to the Rush concert in Dallas!

I've been listening to Rush my whole life. I might not have been a fan my whole life, but my dad made sure I grew up knowing their discography. I remember him playing "2112" on full volume, and it would make the whole house electric. That being said, when they announced their "50 Something" tour, tickets were purchased almost immediately.

The band in their younger years. RIP Neil <3

When I first heard about this tour, like many other people, I questioned: Who's going to be on drums? Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are still here, but the great Neil Peart sadly passed in 2020. Who could possibly pull off those complex time signatures and his massive drum kit? The answer: Anika Nilles, one badass woman. Let me tell you, she did not disappoint! She was an absolute powerhouse, and it was so awesome seeing her up there, because I could tell she was having just as much fun as the crowd.

During the second half of the show, I was standing in an open area watching the crowd and band. I had grown up listening to these songs, but seeing them live was a whole new experience. I've been to my fair share of concerts over the years, but Rush absolutely takes the cake for the best performance I have ever seen. The crowd was electric. Dickies Arena was full of people, of all generations, enjoying a band that's been out for, well, 50-something years.

As a Gen Z myself, until that night I had never been to a real rock n' roll show. Going to college at Texas State University, I've witnessed my fair share of punk shows in the park (and I still cherish those garage band shows), but to see rock legends play like they did in the 70s, it was an indescribable feeling. Awe, shock, and excitement all in one.

Picture from the concert!

If you're interested, I made a vlog of my trip to Dallas for the show and uploaded it to the "vlogs" page!!  I hope to make more YouTube videos to publish, but I have no idea what to film. Maybe a makeup tutorial? This month's favorites?  Let me know if you guys have any suggestions:)

Awards Season Is Hereee!

Hello readers!!

Fall is my favorite season. Not just because of Halloween or the chilly weather... but because it's AWARDS SEASON!!! I love everything about award shows: the glam, the fashion, the jokes, even the corny parts. Some people love this time of year because of football, but I love it because of awards.

This year, "Hacks" and "The Pitt" have the most nominations, and they were my two favorite shows, so I'm especially excited. I hope to write a post about my thoughts on the winners and just the program in general, so stay tuned!! However, it's 7 p.m. my time, which means the show is starting!! I gotta go lock in.

Sharp Objects (2018)

Hello readers!

I recently watched "Sharp Objects" (2018) on HBO, and oh my god, I discovered a masterpiece. Based on Gillian Flynn's 2006 novel of the same name, the show follows journalist Camille Preaker (Amy Adams) as she returns to her hometown to investigate the murders of two young girls, while simultaneously facing demons from her past.

I wasn't too sure what to expect when I started the show, but I loved every second. It constantly gave me an eerie feeling, but I couldn't pinpoint exactly why until the last episode. I don't want to get too much into the details of the plot, because it would spoil the whole thing (and I am NOT about that life, especially with this story). It's a show that you really just have to take in.

As always, Amy Adams was an absolute powerhouse in this show. She's such an amazing actress; there were moments where I completely forgot she played the fun, bubbly Giselle in "Enchanted" (2007). Her performance in "Sharp Objects" was raw, unlike anything I've ever seen from her before. She really is that girl!!

Still, if you're looking for a good murder mystery to watch, this is a perfect show. I also really want roller skates now. Throughout the show, we see Amma Crellin (Eliza Scanlen), Camille's younger sister, ride around town on her skates. Cool mode of transportation. Amma is also a very interesting character, as she's very different outside their house versus inside. Her fashion sense is also killer.

I do want to warn you guys if you're going to watch: there are some pretty intense themes, such as self-harm, abuse, and violence, that might be triggering to some viewers. So, watch at your own risk! However, I greatly enjoyed this series, and it will go down in history as one of my favorites.

Epic Side Quest!

Hello readers!

First, sorry I went M.I.A. for a little bit!! It's been a busy week! I wanted to tell you guys about something awesome: the analog photo booth. Being Gen Z, I'm used to digital booths, but I love the look of actual ink on film. Luckily for me, I don't live too far from Roommate Collective, a small business that has one of the only analog booths in Texas!! As soon as I heard about it, I texted one of my friends, and we started our quest!! Once we got there, there was a line (rightfully so). After a short wait, we hopped in and took some pics.

Before writing this, I wanted to research the booth and learn where it came from, but they surprisingly don't say anything about it on the website. So instead, I'll tell you how the booth works. Like a digital photo booth, we had four shots snapped, but instead of getting the film almost immediately, our pictures took three minutes to develop.

This is because the photo booth is essentially a mini darkroom! After the initial shots, mechanical arms then dip the pictures into different inks to get the look of the photo. The strip goes through all the normal elements of development: developer, a bleach bath, fixer, and toner.

It was so cool; as soon as they came out, the ink was still wet, and we had to blow on them to dry. I was being soo careful not to smudge any ink off the picture. After a few minutes, they were perfectly dry:) The store also offers magnetic covers to put over your photo! So cute.

Here's how mine turned out!! If you're ever in the Austin area, I highly recommend checking this spot out!

Halloween Makeover😈

Hello readers!

Now that September is near, that only means one thing. Fall is here, which means it's time for Halloween!! Was that technically two things? You get the point. I love this time of year, and all the spooks and scares that come with it.

Every year, my mom goes insane decorating the house for Halloween. She always, without fail, decks the house in all things spooky and mystical. Sooo, I thought it would be cute to decorate my blog with a bunch of horror/halloween widgets!!

All this to say, the page will be under construction for a couple of days while I get it perfect!! Sooo, if you see things changing constantly, just know that I'm curating the perfect spooky vibe for fall!! Can't wait for y'all to see:) I might also write some entries about my fav horror movies/Halloween costumes! Lmk what you'd like to hear about (if anyone's actually reading this)!! 🧟‍♀️

Dolly Parton's Legacy

Hello readers,

Today we lost a legend. Dolly Parton, the beloved country music singer, actress, and philanthropist, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was 80.

Dolly Parton dazzled our radios, televisions, and hearts throughout her seven-decade-long career. Beyond her outstanding music career (which earned her 11 Grammys and more than 100 million records sold), she spent endless time and money giving back to those who need it. She was outspoken and fearless, and looked damn good while doing it.

Dolly's philanthropic work, to me, is one of the most admirable things about her. In 1988, she created the Dollywood Foundation, a non-profit to inspire the children in her home county to obtain educational success. In 1995, this foundation grew when it adopted Dolly's Imagination Library, where children ages 5 and under are gifted books once a month around the world. This foundation also offers five scholarships to students in her home county to attend any accredited university.

Dolly Parton was also a huge ally to the LGBTQIA+ community despite her strong Christian faith. In a 2017 interview with Larry King, she stated, "I keep saying: 'If you're the fine Christian that you think you are, why are you judging people? That's God's Job.'" Dolly followed this with, "We're supposed to love one another; we're supposed to not judge."

She was also very vocal about her support for the Black Lives Matter movement, endorsing the organization and removing Confederate implications from her businesses. In an interview with Billboard, she said, "Of course Black lives matter. Do we think our little white asses are the only ones that matter? No!" Iconic.

There is so much good in Dolly. If I wrote out every charity she donated to, everyone she stood up for when other people weren't, or how many people have said she was a "walking angel", I'd be here for days, and this entry would be incredibly long. As a little girl growing up in the South, I've always looked up to Dolly's beauty, wit, and her passion to help people. Dolly Parton, we will always love you. 🦋

Post-Grad... Strange

 Hello readers!!

It's been a few days since my last entry, so I wanted to give you guys a little update on my life! I moved back home a few months ago after graduating, and getting adjusted has been... interesting.

Every year, when August comes around, my friends and I prep for back-to-school. Shopping for clothes, supplies, the whole nine yards. This year, though, is quite different. Instead of gearing up for school, we're all around the state/country... gearing up for jobs!!

I recently received a job offer (that I'm going to accept! Yay!!) somewhere I think I'll really enjoy, and I'm super excited to get back into a routine. I've been unemployed for a few weeks (unexpectedly quit my last job) and have been sooo antsy. I've been cleaning things that have never been touched. Bringing up hobbies I haven't touched since middle school. VERY boring (but also peaceful).

As excited as I am for my new job to start, it's a strange feeling, knowing that school is starting and I never have to go back. It's liberating to know I never have to do algebra homework again, but the real world is a lot different than going to a couple of classes and then napping for three hours. As a 22-year-old, I feel a bit of imposter syndrome. What do you mean I'm an adult?? Weird. I'm not sure how to describe it. Maybe bittersweet? Anyways. Post-grad life is a roller coaster, but oh, do I love it!!

Is Peter Parker the MCU Oppenheimer?

Hello readers!

PSA: If you haven't seen the movie yet, there will be spoilers in this review!

I recently saw "Brand New Day" (the newest Spider-Man) in theaters, and boy, do I have some thoughts! I've loved Tom Holland's version of the character since he first debuted in "Captain America: Civil War," and I think it's safe to say that the character has transformed over the past decade.

When "Spider-Man: Homecoming" came out in 2017, I was 13. Almost a decade later, I'm 22, and it feels like the character has grown up with me, in a way. Like Peter Parker, I went through high school, lost/gained some friends, and have experienced a lot since the last movie, "No Way Home" (2021). Once I saw the trailer for BND, I was so excited. I've always been a huge Marvel fan, so whenever a new movie comes out, I always compare it to the comics, so I had a few predictions for this one.

My main prediction was that the movie would include the "Man-Spider" arc. In the animated series from 1994, Spider-Man's mutation doesn't end with just his powers. He eventually finds out from Dr. Connors that his mutation is accelerating, and fast. Due to this, Peter goes to Dr. Mariah Crawford in search of a cure, but the results aren't what he had hoped. What was once Peter Parker fully mutates into Man-Spider. The real cure is eventually administered by Kraven the Hunter, and Peter goes back to the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man... as long as he wears his Neogenic Recombinator.

My prediction was... half correct. We did get Peter mutating, but there was no Dr. Connors, Dr. Crawford, or even Kraven. However, what we got was better than I could've expected. In the film, Peter's mutations start because he has gone through traumatic events: the loss of Aunt May, Tony, and making the whole world forget about him. Since he is moving farther and farther from who he is, his arachnid DNA increases, which in turn brings about Man-Spider. However, instead of going to Dr. Mariah Crawford, Spidey took the MCU route and sought out help from Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk.

After meeting with Dr. Banner, Peter builds the MCU version of the Recombinator: the Genetic Inhibitor. With his inhibitor, he's able to stop his arachnid DNA from going above the normal level, containing the Man-Spider. After making one designed for his own genetics, Peter made a universal inhibitor. However, his new invention slowly starts to have an Oppenheimer effect when it's used to conceal Jean Grey's powers by the DODC (Department of Damage Control). In the comics, mutants are greatly discriminated against, as many of the plot points were based on the Civil Rights movement.

Using the facts about the inhibitor and about the history of the X-Men, it's clear that this plot point is laying the groundwork for future power-suppression technology that could be used to target the X-Men and other mutants. Bruce Banner does warn Peter that this device could be dangerous in the wrong hands. At the end of the movie, the inhibitor is left in the hands of the DODC. Given all this info, there's a high chance that this one small invention will have a ripple effect on the future of MCU mutants.

If you made it this far, WOW, thank you for reading my nerdy ramble! Hope you enjoyed and learned something new:)
